We take care of our favorite car in many ways. We carefully repair everything from the slightest scratch to any damage to the engine. However, we all have faced different problems with our car at one time or another, one of which is a Radiator Leaks.

A Radiator leak is a leakage problem in the radiator or cooling system of the car in which the coolant liquid leaks. Sometimes you may notice fluid drops under your vehicle. Most of the time, it is caused for the leakage in the radiator. In such a situation, we generally try to solve the problem by using Radiator Stop Leak. Radiator stop leak is an effective solution for this problem. It can stop the leakages within a short time.

Another problem that we face is overheating. Sometimes, we find that our car engine is getting hotter than usual. When it happens after using a stop leak in the car, the only question in our mind is that- Is the overheating being caused for using the stop leak?

Well, let’s find out.

Can radiator stop leak cause overheating?

You may have seen that the engine of your car is getting hotter in a while after turning it on. Obviously, it’s a dangerous situation and may cause an accident. Sometimes, we don’t find an appropriate reason for this problem. But there are actually a few reasons for why the engine overheats.

Can radiator stop leak cause overheating? The answer is Yes. Radiator Stop Leak can cause overheating. Most of the time, overheating in the radiator happens for using radiator stop leaks in the radiator. They can lower the ability of the coolant liquid and cause overheating. But one thing we should keep in mind that all the stop leaks are not responsible for this problem.

You are leading your engine to the way of overheating.

Sometimes the chemical composition of the stop leak is not compatible with the coolant. Because different engines operate with different coolants and fuels. If you don’t choose the right stop leak for your vehicle, it will trouble you. It is possible that the Radiator stop leak clogged some passages in the radiator and you have less cubic inches of radiator leading to less space for the coolant to cool. There is always a risk of that when using those products.

What is the cause of engine overheating?

Overheating doesn’t happen only for radiator stop leak. It can happen for various reasons. Some of the reasons are-

Low coolant level

Most of the time, the overheating of engines happens for a low coolant level. When the coolant level decreases, it cannot work properly and fails to cool the radiator. As a result, the temperature of the engine increases gradually. But the problem is not that tough to verify or fix. As a protection, you must check the coolant level before every major trip, especially in the summer, and at least once a month for normal driving.

Coolant issues

If you are not using the right coolant for your vehicle, you are going to have the overheating problem. Each vehicle is designed to run on a specific type and blend of coolants. If you choose the wrong coolant or get the mix wrong, it may cause overheating. Each vehicle needs the proper blend of coolant to work properly. To avoid such a problem, you must find the information in the owner’s manual for the right type of coolant for your vehicle.

Broken water pump

A water pump in a vehicle does the circulation of coolant throughout the engine and radiator, where it can be cooled down. If there is any fault in the pump, the engine may cause the overheating. Most of the time, a leaking or faulty pump is the reason for vehicle overheating and requires immediate attention.

A blocked radiator

The radiator in the engine is the Grand Central Station for its cooling system. It contains a mixture of antifreeze and water which cools the engine. This mixture passes continually through the radiator to keep it cold. It discharges some of the heat it picked up from the engine and takes in cooler air before circulating again through passages around the engine. If there is a blockage in the radiator, it will not be able to work properly. Thus the radiator becomes hot gradually. In this situation, it is necessary to drain and clean your radiator and wash the outside to remove dirt and debris so coolant and air can flow freely.

Bad Radiator Fan

The radiator fan pulls air across the radiator for reducing the coolant’s temperature. But a broken fan or a worn fan can’t help to reduce the temperature. As a result, it will lead to overheating.

How to avoid overheating for Radiator Stop Leak?

Radiator Stop Leak is not a permanent solution for radiator leaks. After fixing the problem, it may come back again. But it will not be fair if another problem arises in the process of solving one. So, follow some rules to avoid the overheating issue in case of fixing the leakage in your vehicle.
